Vermelho Melides

What’s the hotel in a nutshell?

Nestled in the tranquil village of Melides, the first-ever hotel from shoe designer Christian Louboutin is an eclectic, extravagant and curious escape that exudes a mix of Spanish and Alentejo traditional design. With 13 masterfully designed rooms, the hotel features the hallmark of Louboutin’s creativity, from bespoke doors from Los Tres Juanes in Granada to signature pops of red in the beige cotton bed slippers. Patrons are treated to traditional Portuguese cuisine at Xtian, led by Chef David Abreu. The smartly curated wine list features Portuguese wineries, while the petite bar boasts a design inspired by an ornate Catholic sculpture.

What are the rooms like?

Featuring just 13 guest bedrooms, Vermelho Melides is a testament to maximalist character and exceptional design. Each room is uniquely finished, with standout touches such as the 84 square metre Matinha Suite, complete with a private terrace, separate lounge area, and a hand-painted floral mural by Greek artist Konstantin Kakanias. The hotel’s design is brought to life by Lusitanian architect Madalena Caiado and interior decoration consultant Carolina Irving, showcasing an eclectic mix of traditional Spanish and Alentejo design elements.

While the nearby Algarve attracts hordes of tourists, the Alentejo remains tranquil, with many deserted beaches to explore. Savour the region’s delicious, underrated wines while enjoying panoramic countryside views, with majestic cork oaks and olive groves teeming with wildlife. Explore ancient Iberian settlements and don’t miss the chance to dine on fresh local cuisine, including black pig and wild mushroom specialities.
