The Mediterranean • Stay • Hôtel La Tartane Saint Tropez in Saint-Tropez, France
Hôtel La Tartane Saint Tropez is a charming retreat that offers an unpretentious take on French hospitality. Located in the Cote d’Azur region of France, the resort recently underwent a full renovation that celebrates the 1920s Riviera life. The hotel comprises five ‘hamlets’ designed to evoke the spirit of a family getaway, with each house named after a famous former resident of the area. The hotel’s interior design is the brainchild of Jordane Arrivetz, founder of design studio Notoire, who created an eclectic mix of patterned sofas, painted floorboards and rattan headboards to create the sense of a bygone era.
The 27 rooms and suites at Hôtel La Tartane Saint Tropez are spread across houses named after figures and muses of the Café Society era, such as Ernest Hemingway and Peggy Guggenheim. The rooms are designed to evoke a family vacation home, with furniture and objets d’art varying across each room, while natural materials establish uniformity. Whitewashed beams and timber roofs are contrasted by vibrant colours, including almond green, pastel pink, and luminous yellow that amplify the colour story of the south of France. Floral cushions and striped armchairs complete the refreshing take on luxury hospitality.

Guests at Hôtel La Tartane Saint Tropez are free to wander the stone pathways surrounded by greenery, take a dip in the pool or order sushi from the hotel’s restaurant, St Amour. A hand-painted bar serves cocktails and lemonade made from the hotel garden’s citrus fruits. The communal areas are equally inviting, with hand-painted floral details and dining nooks with bamboo roofs creating an inviting, homely atmosphere. The alfresco eatery, outfitted with parquet floors, brass lighting and travertine pedestal tables reminiscent of the early 20th century, sits at the heart of the property. With frescoes by Brazilian artist João Incerti enlivening the outdoor areas, Hôtel La Tartane Saint Tropez offers an idyllic retreat for guests looking for a warm, family vacation home on the Cote d’Azur.
Located in the southeastern corner of France, this region is known for its sun-drenched beaches, rolling lavender fields, charming hilltop villages, and the iconic town of Saint-Tropez. Once the seat of the papacy in Avignon, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur is steeped in history and has inspired artists like Van Gogh and Cézanne with its stunning landscapes. From the glamorous city of Cannes to the picturesque village of Gordes, the region boasts a range of major sights and must-visits, including the Palais des Papes and the Roman Theatre in Orange. However, what truly makes this region unique is its vibrant and colourful culture, with its love for food, wine, and outdoor markets, making it a must-visit destination for travellers looking for a taste of the Mediterranean lifestyle.
