Porto, Portugal

The Largo

What’s the hotel in a nutshell?

The Largo, springing to life in Porto’s vibrant heart, is the first brainchild of Annassurra, a Copenhagen-based travel collective founded by Steen Bock and Per Enevoldsen. Launched in 2023, this boutique hotel redefines luxury travel with a strong emphasis on integrating with the local scene. Conceptualised by Space Copenhagen, The Largo is an intricate blend of history and contemporary flair. Occupying historical buildings from various eras, it intricately integrates Porto’s past into its modern essence. The design philosophy, a fusion of new and old, is palpable throughout, offering guests an immersive experience that is deeply connected to Porto’s rich cultural heritage.

What are the rooms like?

The Largo’s 18 suites are a symphony of elegance and comfort, conceived with an eye for ‘aesthetic slowness’. Every room stands as a unique testament to the craftsmanship of Space Copenhagen. Generously sized, these suites, in dusty hues, emulate the luxury of upscale apartments, complete with living and dining spaces. Local artisans have lent their skills, adorning each room with bespoke stonework and woodwork, echoing Porto’s rich artisanal history. The design, by Peter Bundgaard Rützou and Signe Bindslev Henriksen, strikes a balance between historical authenticity and modern luxury.

What else?

Aligning with Annassurra’s ethos of deep local integration, the hotel offers culinary delights from the renowned Portuguese Chef Nuno Mendes. The on-site restaurant and bar, Cozinha das Flores and Flôr, are gateways to Porto’s gastronomic heart. Eschewing traditional hotel formalities like a check-in desk, The Largo invites guests into a more personal and laid-back atmosphere. Positioned to encourage exploration, it stands as a sanctuary for those looking to dive deep into the local culture.

What’s the city like?

Porto, the crowning jewel of Norte, exudes an unparalleled vibrancy. As the coastal heart where the Douro River meets the Atlantic, its streets are painted with azulejo-tiled facades. While it’s globally renowned for its eponymous port wine, Porto offers more than liquid treasures. The Livraria Lello beckons with its ornate woodwork, often hailed as the world’s most stunning bookstore and the São Bento railway station showcases Portugal’s tales through intricate tiles. Venture from the lively Ribeira District to the modern art masterpieces at Serralves, and you’ll see Porto’s dexterity in marrying tradition and innovation. In Norte’s embrace, Porto stands as a city pulsating with stories, a delight for every explorer.
