The 5 best boutique and luxury hotels in Cannes, France

Cannes’s most chic boutique hotels

Cannes, on the shimmering Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur in southern France, is synonymous with sun-drenched beaches, glamorous film premieres and a vibrant Mediterranean lifestyle. For those of us who love the finer details – like soulful architecture, quiet pools and the kind of interiors you wish you could bring home – this French Riviera city is a goldmine. Whether you want Belle Époque grandeur, a sculptural retreat or a playful nod to Palm Springs, Cannes is all about hotels with stories to tell and personalities that stick. Here are our favourite places to check in, each one a front-row seat to Cannes’s timeless glamour and laid-back Riviera style.

Carlton Cannes

Ask anyone who’s wandered La Croisette and they’ll point out the Carlton Cannes – its white domes, grand entrance and sea-facing façade have defined the Cannes skyline since 1911. A protected historical monument and the world’s most photographed hotel, the Carlton Cannes emerged from an extensive restoration in 2023, overseen by interior designer Tristan Auer and architect Richard Lavelle, reaffirming its status as a luxurious beach destination. Auer respected the historical fabric while adding two elegant new wings, a lush interior garden and Cannes’ largest infinity pool. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining, with four restaurants, including the Riviera and Rüya (Anatolian cuisine), a refined Camélia tea lounge and Bar 58 serving inventive cocktails.

Hôtel Martinez

There’s a certain grande dame glamour to Hôtel Martinez, located at the east end of the promenade since 1929. Its Art Deco bones are unmistakable – sweeping balustrades, terrazzo underfoot and that sun-drenched white-and-blue palette. But it’s not just about looks. This is a place with a real story, from resistance drama during WWII (its founder, Emmanuel Martinez, played his part) to hosting generations of film stars. Designer Pierre‑Yves Rochon’s refresh keeps things crisp with white walls, sky‑blue accents, elegant marble and mosaic. Michelin-starred dining is led by Chef Jean Imbert, with La Palme d’Or earning its first star in April 2025, known for its fish- and seafood-centred menus. Le Sud and the white-sand La Plage du Martinez deliver Provençal brasserie cuisine.

Hotel Belle Plage

Waving goodbye to Riviera flash, Hotel Belle Plage offers a minimalist Montmartre‑meets‑Greek‑island escape set in the leafy Suquet slopes. Architect Raphaël Navot (behind Paris’ sleek Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers) took a 1930s seaside structure and reworked it into a sculptural organic sanctuary. Think fluid curves, bone‑white walls highlighted with sherbet‑pops of mimosas and vertical wooden shutters that follow the landscape’s organic rhythm. Inside you’ll find custom cane chairs and a palette that nods to sea and sun. Our favourite spot? The rooftop. Here, Eyal Shani’s Mediterranean menu is served under the dazzling sky with views for days. Downstairs, the 800-square-metre beachfront spa feels more like an urban sanctuary, with treatments inspired by the surrounding hills.

Maison Carla Rosa

Maison Carla Rosa, a powder‑pink boutique charmer in the quieter Californie quarter (once Picasso’s hideaway), is a fresh Cali‑Côte d’Azur mash‑up – a breezy, meditation‑like experience built for summer relaxation. Housed in a former residential villa, this boutique gem has just a handful of suites, each one a study in laid-back elegance. Featuring handpicked rattan chairs, pale woods, terrazzo and pops of pastel that feel straight out of a Wes Anderson film. The kidney-shaped pool is fringed with palms and tall cacti, channelling just a hint of Palm Springs but with Côte d’Azur charm. We love how Maison Carla Rosa is low-key yet considered – perfect if you crave thoughtful materiality, comfort and a less-is-more palette, away from the festival crowds but still close to Croisette.

Five Seas Hotel

Just steps from the action but a world away in attitude, Five Seas Hotel is where Cannes does understated boutique style. The vision here, by architect Pascal Allaman and interiors studio MHNA, was a “motionless journey” – an interior that transports you through textures, light and bespoke items. Cream façades, curated artworks and handmade furniture create a calm, almost immersive travel atelier. The 45 rooms all feel cocoon-like, with canopy‑framed beds, travel‑trunk dressers and glass‑walled bathrooms stocked with high-end, eco-friendly amenities. The rooftop is the ultimate spot for cocktails or a lazy swim in the infinity pool. Here, Le Roof, the elegant terrace bar-restaurant, serves classic Mediterranean bites.
