6 new hotel openings in Porto to watch in 2026

Porto’s 2026 hotel openings show a city getting better at turning atmosphere into a stay. Across Portugal’s Norte region, new hotels are moving into old houses, gallery districts and central blocks with art, wine, rooftops, kitchens and serious bars built in. The risk is overstyling. The best ones still feel like Porto.

Experimental Porto

Porto, Portugal

Porto’s original five-star hotel becomes an Experimental Group address without losing the building that made it significant. Experimental Porto occupies the 1951 Infante Sagres, with interior architect Dorothée Meilichzon reworking its 85 rooms around the hotel’s historic fabric and contemporary Portuguese craft. The Paris-born group extends the idea beyond the bedrooms: La Compagnie brings its wine-bar format to Porto, while Experimental Cocktail Club gives the hotel a serious drinks address of its own. Near Avenida dos Aliados and Clérigos, this is a central base built around hotel history, distinctive interiors and bars worth visiting even without a room key.

Torel Private Collection

Porto, Portugal

Torel Private Collection turns a historic Porto residence into a 16-room hotel centred on contemporary art. The adults-only five-star property occupies a late-19th-century house built as a summer residence for Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, known as A Ferreirinha, and keeps original ceilings, tiles, windows and staircases. Works by Julian Opie, Anselm Kiefer, Takashi Murakami, Helena Almeida and Pedro Cabrita Reis appear throughout. Many rooms look across the Douro, while chef Vítor Matos leads Kanjiru, an intimate Japanese-inspired omakase restaurant. Stay here for the small scale, significant collection and direct connection between the building, its art and the river-facing setting.

Lenscape Coterie

Porto, Portugal

Photography is built into the architecture at Lenscape Coterie, a Porto hotel that treats Portugal as a visual subject. Opened beside the medieval Fernandine Wall, it currently has 39 rooms shaped by Studio Christian Haas with wood, glazed ceramics, porcelain and custom textiles. Images by Luís Espinheira and Inês Silva Sá give each room its own lens on Portuguese landscapes and culture, while works by Luís Ferraz and Carlos Vieira continue through the corridors. A garden pool and Calla spa add calm, while Cucina di Toscani brings chef Vitor Matos’s Italian cooking to an Oliviero Toscani-inspired dining room.

Wilde Porto

Porto, Portugal

Wilde Porto combines apartment practicality with a strongly designed hotel setting. Its 78 studios and apartments occupy townhouses between Galerias de Paris and Praça Guilherme Gomes Fernandes, with interiors by Stephanie Barba Mendoza. Hand-painted tiles by Porto studio New Terracotta, wallpaper by Anna Glover and furniture from Casamidy bring craft into the design, while every unit has a proper kitchen. Downstairs, O’s Below moves from coffee to evening drinks; O’s Above adds cocktails, local wine and rooftop views. Choose it for self-catering flexibility, characterful interiors and immediate access to Clérigos, Livraria Lello and central Porto.
