The Mediterranean • Eat & drink • The guide to Saint-Tropez’s 5 essential bakeries (and must-try pastries)
Saint-Tropez, a gem in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of France, is renowned not only for its stunning beaches and glamorous nightlife but also for its exceptional bakeries. This guide highlights the must-visit artisanal bakeries in Saint-Tropez, each offering a unique array of delectable pastries that will delight your taste buds. From the iconic Tarte Tropézienne, named by none other than Brigitte Bardot, to buttery croissants and delicate pain au chocolat, these bakeries showcase the finest of French baking traditions. Read on to find out where to sink your teeth into the most irresistible baked goods in town.

We’ve been hesitant to reveal this gem, but La Tarte Tropézienne on Place des Lices is simply too exceptional to keep secret. While many La Tarte Tropézienne venues are sprinkled along the coastline, our favourite is this one, right on Place des Lices. The bakery’s signature dessert, the Tarte Tropézienne, was created by Alexandre Micka in the 1950s and popularised by Brigitte Bardot. We love securing one of the few sidewalk seats to indulge in a slice of the iconic Tarte Tropézienne – an entire meal in itself – or perhaps a Baby Trop’ or one with fresh raspberries or strawberries. Service is slow, but it’s the perfect excuse to relax and watch the vibrant life of Saint-Tropez unfold around you.

La Pâtisserie Cyril Lignac, located in the centre of Saint-Tropez, boasts an elegant design by Liautard and the Queen, featuring a honey-coloured decor with a mineral and wooden counter. Although they have been in the area for a long time, we’re thrilled they opened their own spot in the middle of Saint-Tropez in 2024. This patisserie offers a range of sweet and savoury delights crafted by chefs Cyril Lignac and Benoit Couvrand. Signature treats include their own version of Tarte Tropézienne, a fondant chocolate praline, pissaladière and focaccia.

Cedric Grolet Airelles has opened a chic boutique in the heart of Saint-Tropez, at 19 rue des Feniers. This refined shop showcases the acclaimed pastry chef’s exquisite creations. The boutique features a minimalist design that elegantly combines the pastry and luxury worlds of Airelles. Here, you can find Grolet’s signature treats, including sculpted fruits, flower tarts, and giant cookies, along with local specialties like the Tropezienne, nougat and creations inspired by Provençal flavours. We particularly adore Grolet’s flower-shaped take on the Tarte Tropézienne, a stunning twist on the classic dessert.

Aux Deux Frères in Saint-Tropez features one of the town’s most Instagrammed facades. Known for its exquisite Tartes Tropéziennes, fruit tarts with caramel brûlé and a variety of pastries and breads, this historic bakery also offers delicious pan bagnats and opulent sandwiches. We always head here to line up for good sandwiches and cold drinks to bring to the beach, but make sure to arrive early as items run out quickly. The bakery uses organic flour and fresh local ingredients, ensuring top quality in every bite.
