The Mediterranean • Eat & drink • Corfu’s 5 best restaurants (and must-try dishes)
Corfu, the emerald jewel of the Ionian Sea, is a Greek island that knows how to eat well. With its Venetian influences, sun-drenched olive groves and fresh-off-the-boat seafood, Corfu’s food scene is as rich as its history. But where do you find the best of the best? We’ve done the legwork – tasting, debating and indulging – to bring you the island’s top restaurants. And because no great meal is complete without the right dish, we’re spotlighting what to order at each stop – whether it’s pastitsada, fresh bourdeto or something unexpected. Hungry? You should be!

Set on the waterfront in Agni Bay, Toula’s Seaside, established over 40 years ago by the self-taught chef, Toula Katsarou-Vergetis, has evolved from humble beginnings into a gastronomic landmark. The restaurant has garnered prestigious accolades, including the Greek Cuisine Awards by Athinorama and the FNL Best Restaurant Awards from 2016 to 2022. We love the relaxed atmosphere and the simple charm of a seaside terrace that frames the deep blue of the Ionian Sea. The interior keeps things simple, just like their menu, featuring a few local art pieces and rustic wooden furniture. The menu focuses on traditional Greek food, with ingredients sourced directly from their organic garden. Signature dishes include grilled octopus, fresh fish of the day and an array of meze options designed for sharing.

Etrusco is a well-known dining spot that has garnered acclaim for its innovative Mediterranean cuisine. Under the creative direction of Chef Ettore Botrini, the restaurant has been recognised as one of Greece’s top dining establishments, earning prestigious awards for its exceptional culinary offerings. Upon arrival, you are greeted by the stunning setting – the weathered, bougainvillea-clad terrace. This lush, floral canopy provides a serene al fresco dining environment – the best spot to dine and take in the natural beauty of Corfu’s landscape. Chef Botrini draws inspiration from Corfiot traditions and local ingredients, crafting dishes that honor the island’s gastronomic heritage while incorporating modern techniques. One of the must-try dishes here is the Uncle Nick Told Me… – scorpionfish prepared as a bourdeto (spicy fish stew).

Situated atop the historic Cavalieri Hotel, the Roof Garden Restaurant offers panoramic views of Corfu Town, the Old Fortress and the picturesque Garitsa Bay. We like how the restaurant embraces its location: the open-air layout lets you enjoy a gentle sea breeze and, later in the evening, a spectacular sunset that transforms the sky into a canvas of vibrant colors. The menu here is a creative take on Mediterranean cuisine, featuring a mix of fresh salads, small plates and innovative main courses that highlight the bounty of local produce. You have to try the soutzoukakia (baked meatballs in tomato sauce) and end off your meal with the kadaif (finely shredded phyllo dough), served with ice cream – delicious!

Salto Wine Bar & Bistro is a spot that celebrates both the art of fine wine and the joy of shared, satisfying bites. The interior features rustic-chic decor, creating a stylish and intimate atmosphere. An open-plan kitchen adds to the dining experience, allowing you to witness the artistry behind each dish. The bistro’s charm lies in its balance – a curated wine list with over 120 premium Greek wine labels paired effortlessly with a selection of small plates that range from light salads to hearty meat dishes. Standout dishes include the halloumi cheese in pistachio crust and the arugula salad, with pan seared goat cheese, cherry tomatoes and balsamic vinaigrette.

Pomo d’Oro is set within the scenic Skaramagka Square. Chef Aristotelis Megoulas, bringing together Greek, French and Italian influences, leads the restaurant’s innovative approach to Mediterranean cuisine. We recommend dining outside on the beautiful outdoor terrace, surrounded by historic Venetian houses, which enhances the dining experience with a touch of old-world charm. When a restaurant has so many good dishes, it’s hard to choose only one favourite dish. Three dishes that we think are worth trying are the Katayfi (a dessert made from shredded phyllo dough) with Rooster Pastitsado, the Cuttlefish Ink Ravioli with Lobster Filling, made with handmade black ravioli and lastly the Metsovone Brûlée Tart that combines smoky Metsovone cheese in a crisp tart shell with caramelised sugar and walnuts.
