The Mediterranean • Shop • The vintage shops shaping Rome’s style right now
Rome’s vintage scene has matured beyond nostalgia. What was once a market for retro purists now feeds the city’s evolving design language. A language that borrows from punk, sportswear and classic Italian tailoring in equal measure. A new generation of stylists, collectors and small-batch resellers are redefining what vintage means here. Rewriting its visual language through second-hand fashion that values construction, texture and memory. In Monti and Trastevere, these shops are curating the city’s next aesthetic. Here, a perfectly worn Levi’s jacket sits beside a Céline coat and 90s Prada feels contemporary again. These are the places shaping what Rome wears right now and how the city continues to evolve through what it decides to keep.

Moll Flanders brings a sense of composure to Rome’s vintage scene. The boutique calls itself a Maison de Re-Couture and the phrase fits. The boutique introduces the concept of “re-couture”, a reworking of fashion history through refined taste. Inside its quiet Monti address, the mood feels closer to a Parisian archive. Racks of pre-owned Céline, Dries Van Noten and Marni share space with pristine 70s tailoring and vintage accessories sourced from collectors. The space feels calm and deliberate, with soft lighting and a focus on material detail. The owner’s philosophy centres on longevity and reuse as an act of design discipline. Moll Flanders positions vintage as a form of modern luxury, a curated narrative of style built to last.

Twice Vintage speaks to Rome’s quieter side of style, one that values individuality and intimacy over volume. Founded by sisters Tiziana and Cristina in 2010, it feels more like a design atelier than a store. Each rail is a moodboard: silk shirts in citrus tones, denim overalls, 80s tailoring and accessories that could have walked straight off a Milan runway. Their edit spans eras, from the glamour of the 60s to the subversive 90s, but it’s the eye behind the selection that makes it special. The Twice Vintage aesthetic is confident, feminine and slightly offbeat. The owners approach sourcing with a stylist’s eye and a storyteller’s curiosity. The atmosphere is personal and relaxed, the kind of space that encourages slow conversation and discovery.

King Size is the insider’s dig. The place you don’t come to for convenience, you come to unearth. Located in Monti on Via Leonina, it’s packed from floor to ceiling with denim, suede, leather and more than a few wildcards. The atmosphere recalls early-2000s Rome when streetwear and retro sports logos began merging with designer silhouettes. Nothing here is curated to look perfect. Instead, it rewards a slower look – the frayed labels, the softened leather and the marks that prove these clothes have stories of their own. You walk out with something that carries weight, texture and history. Prices reflect rarity and condition and the thrill lies in the hunt. Expect the smell of vintage textiles, the hum of 90s pop and staff who genuinely love the chaos.

Blue Goose captures Rome’s quieter take on vintage: sleek, feminine and editorial. Set on Via del Boschetto, it leans towards contemporary designer resale rather than nostalgia. Expect silk blouses, minimalist tailoring, well-preserved leather handbags and the kind of footwear that still turns heads decades later. The aesthetic is clean and European, less about the thrill of rummaging and more about the satisfaction of discovery. The shop’s founder, Francesca, sources items with an archivist’s discipline and a love for design integrity. The atmosphere in the boutique is measured, reflective and elegant.
