Set on the edge of Lac du Pêcher in Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Park, Instants d’Absolu Ecolodge & Spa was founded in 2010 by Laurence Costa and Daniel Siegel. It’s a restored farmhouse offering 12 unique rooms with wooden furniture, natural fabrics, stone lamp bases, murals on bark, hypoallergenic bedding and no TVs or phones. Set against a backdrop of a 40-acre lake and 6,000-acre forest, it’s designed for a slow-living escape. You can hike volcano trails nearby and then visit the on-site spa, which includes sensory showers, a sauna, an outdoor whirlpool, Japanese-style baths and tailored treatments. You can also enjoy a meal at the lakefront restaurant, where the food comes from the lodge’s garden or local producers.

On the sun-drenched coast near Hyères, this eco-conscious retreat is part of Hilton’s Curio Collection. Le Hameau des Pesquiers Ecolodge & Spa sits by salt marshes, pine woods and the sea. There are just 48 rooms spread across two low-rise buildings, including a few Prestige Suites with private outdoor hot tubs for a bit of extra indulgence. You’ll find all the resort-level comforts – an indoor pool, a well-equipped gym and a serene Nuxe spa with three treatment rooms, plus a sauna and steam room. The Salinier restaurant keeps it close to home, serving Mediterranean dishes made with produce from the lodge’s own gardens and eggs and honey from its beehives. The beach is practically on your doorstep, ferries to the Golden Isles are nearby and you’re within easy reach of Hyères Old Town and the Giens Peninsula.
